So I twisted Wendy's arm and she gave me (Marcus) access to post stuff here. We thought it would be good to share the duty. If there's enough interest, we can set up a subscription service so that everyone will receive emails when we post new entries here. It would remind all of you to come post comments! (Let us know if you want that feature.)
Where to start about Yamhill? I thought it would be fun to remember some of our favorite stories from each reunion. I think we've had thirty-seven now. (But I may be off by a few dozen.)
We started officially at Yamhill in Oregon. In fact, that was the last time we were all in Oregon together.
Here's what I remember:
That cool horseshoe river that circled the camp. There was a great swimming hole, with a rope swing and everything. I was in middle school at the time (I think). So swimming holes were not nostalgic yet. They were just cool.
Oh man, those concrete showers. It was a camp after all. We've come a long way since then.
Spoons every night with the cousins. There must have been twenty of us playing at a time. Things got dangerous. We destroyed several decks of cards. We bent several spoons, and bent them back again.
The first talent show! Wanita et al were California Raisins. They put everyone to shame and set the bar for all future talent to include much competition and pre-show stress.
Devotionals in the outdoor amphitheater. That was a good space. The world was our church that week. God's family was our family.
We all took turns doing the dishes. Did I mention that we've come a long way since then?
Some of us came early and stayed with the Dan Goodyears. So many people in one house. And they all wanted to shower daily (thank goodness!) That's when Uncle Dan first taught me about marine corps showers.
And those side trips! The waterfall hike, when some of us stood under a waterfall. I remember Jim, Nathan, Brian, and Me but there were probably others. That water was freezing. We had a picnic somewhere too. Probably in that same park. And someone made a blackberry cobbler that I still remember as the best blackberry cobbler I've ever had.
I'm still trying to forget the late night panty raid. Whose idea was that anyway?
So what do you remember from Yamhill?

Hmm. Let's see. I was really young... I remember the Raisins... the Crayons (The Perkin's, I think)... The beginning of our (meaning the John Goodyear part)really lame talent... and the panties flying on the flag pole. We have a strange family.
While many were gathering at our house before the first reunion began,I seem to remember a lively game of "Pit." Lively enough to break the dining room table! Though if I remember correctly we had it all re-glued and put together before mom (Aunt Gwen) got home!!!
Wendy
Oh how well I remember the fireworks fiasco! We still don't play well with fireworks around here! And who can forget the one-week old Tanner and Gail VERY pregnant with Aric! And if I am figuring correctly, they both graduate from high school right before reunion 2007! Wow I'm getting old!
Wendy
Getting old, Wendy? We second generation folks have become .... MIDDLE-AGED!
I just want you all to remember that I'm second generation and by no means MIDDLE AGED. MWA HA HA HA. Let me rub that in your face. :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL. I love you!!
Hey Marcus, I remember the waterfall. I think Rob was with us too. Do you remember that we had to strip down to our underwear and carry our clothes to wade the stream? That really was a great time wasn't it? Since I'm a grandfather now, does that make me one of the "oldies"? Ugh! I guess that would make the "oldies" the "ancient ones". ;)
Let me say the greatest thing about that first one is that we started the process and we were together and continue to be so close as family. I am so proud of all of you. You young people finally caught up with us oldies and will be drawing social security with us. Yes Arly even you. I look forward to July.
Uncle Dan
Joel, I don't remember anything about that wading thing. I do remember standing under a waterfall with my brother and Jimmy and freezing!
Maybe you were not there for the wading, but it was during the hike around park when some of us took a short cut through the creek. It was very cold water though. Looking forward to this summer.
Just wanted to say Congratulations to Renee and Greg on a bouncing baby girl!!
I happen to disagree with Arly saying that the Yamhill retreat was the start of the John Goodyear family's quest to provide the lamest talent in our oh so cherished talent show. I happen know that I PERSONALLY sang all sorts of weird camp songs that year and did a particularly accurate impression of Nathan as a football player. All while sporting a very stylish blue jumpsuit that was 3 inches to short. If that isn't awesome talent I don't know what is.
I also remember the panties on the flagpole, even though I've tried to wipe that memory forever from the brain files. I also remember sleeping in a camp trailer in a nice soft bed, while the REST OF YOU slept in those horrible cabins with plastic mattresses. Ah the fond memories.
So apparently we've all become either super busy or we're just all done with this post. ;)
I'm ready for a vacation. How about you guys?
Hey member that one time when it took the whole Goodyear family to pin me to the ground and even then Joel still got some nice rug burns on his face? Yeah good times good times. Nate and Sam are going down hard. Especially Nate you Benedict Arnold.
What is the closest airport to fly into???? My family is not prepared to make the 1051.9 mile road trip... we need to put some of our reward points to good use and fly the friendly skies. I want to get our tickets booked so I can go to my boss and get permission for my vacation.
Hey Wendy... I'm sending my last check this week!! WOOHOO!! And, we have plane tickets now. :) Does anybody know if you can see the Golden Gate Bridge when flying into San Fran?
Hey, well I am the oldest of the oldies and here I am using a blog for the very first time. Of course if it goes through remains to be seen (since this is my second attempt).
I can't wait for the reunion. To see everyone. To pray together and thank our loving Heavenly Father for us all being here for another reunion (plus several additions).
Can't wait for July, I love you all so much.
